Galway, “The City of the Tribes”, was originally founded as a fishing village in the Claddagh area close to the Spanish Arch, where the River Corrib flows into beautiful Galway Bay.

In1396 A charter was granted  by Richard II which transferred governing powers to 14 merchant families Galway City is now known and “City of The Tribes”, and the names of these fourteen tribes
